Madison Park REIT’s President and CEO John Protopappas has been developing and managing mixed-use live/work space and apartments since the early 1980s. Madison Park’s goal is to preserve the historic nature of older buildings and urban neighborhoods, while adapting them to modern uses. In pursuit of this goal, Madison Park has renovated many historic properties for reuse, and built contextual new live/work projects.

Oakland Mayor Jerry Brown’s residence and office was designed and constructed by Madison Park in the formerly industrial Jack London Square neighborhood. The building incorporates a modern design, while remaining sensitive to the character of the warehouses surrounding the property. Also in Oakland, Madison Park rehabilitated the Tribune Tower for use as office space and is converting an abandoned Sears building into 53 housing units with ground-floor retail. Madison Park has also begun work on two other live-work historic properties: a circa-1915 former bakery in Emeryville and a turn of the century warehouse in Sacramento’s R Street Corridor.
